Bagua Zhang is known for its circular movements, which are meant give the body strength and longevity. The art emphasizes fluidity in the body and mind to help deal with all the changes of life. It’s practitioners often use the "circle walking" technique to develop their footwork and cultivate their internal energy, or qi.

Bagua comes the from the I Ching, or the Book of Changes. To be able to change constantly, being able to adapt to any situation and flow with the changing circumstances is imperative to maintain health, keep a stable mind and defend ourselves martially. Bagua Zhang is a fascinating and challenging martial art that requires discipline, practice, and a deep understanding of both physical and mental techniques.

One of the main goals of Bagua, is to gain more awareness. The body keeps score, or in other words, your tissues hold onto all of your issues. Bagua aims to gain full movement of every bone, muscle, organ and connective tissue with the ability to move in all eight core directions as well as contraction and expansion. That is valuable because it gives us the ability to consciously release pain and soreness in our bodies with practice and dedication.
